You\u2019ll find some of my personal favorites at the end of this article.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this article is definitively not to reinvent the wheel. Instead, I want to tell you about the <strong>designing part<\/strong>. I believe it is equally important to tell you about what comes first\u00a0: <strong>understanding your business need<\/strong> and designing your solution.<\/p>\n<p>As a picture is worth a thousand words\u00a0:<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2842\" src=\"https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_jdkXvf56Mq_7ZTrf6LsFBA.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_jdkXvf56Mq_7ZTrf6LsFBA-200x103.png 200w, https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_jdkXvf56Mq_7ZTrf6LsFBA-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_jdkXvf56Mq_7ZTrf6LsFBA-400x207.png 400w, https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_jdkXvf56Mq_7ZTrf6LsFBA-600x310.png 600w, https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_jdkXvf56Mq_7ZTrf6LsFBA-768x396.png 768w, https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_jdkXvf56Mq_7ZTrf6LsFBA.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>A few example of use cases are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cross-selling a product to a customer based on his previous purchases and\/or is location, and\/or his level of attrition<\/li>\n<li>Advising sales or support people to take a specific action for a customer, i.e. renew support contract, offer special discount if several cases have been escalated recently\u2026 and guide them through the process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But more than a list of use cases, the most interesting\u200a\u2014\u200aand important\u200a\u2014\u200athing is combining all these recommandations together and making them emerge only in the right situation and at the right time so that each customer will get the best customized and adequate experience. <strong>Bring even more value with a scalable, easy to manage solution<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In practical terms<\/strong>: one object, one strategy, as many\u200a\u2014\u200avaluable and pertinent\u200a\u2014\u200a<strong>recommandations<\/strong> and flows as needed, and nearly <strong>unlimited combinations<\/strong> between them thanks to the different elements provided by the <strong>Strategy Builder<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Following our own advice, Jorge and I finally jumped right into implementation and\u2026<\/p>\n<h3>Issues and workarounds<\/h3>\n<p>Yes, we loved Einstein NBA, but let\u2019s face it, nothing is ever completely easy. Plus, it is still a relatively young feature, so there\u2019s bound to be some challenge.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>Managing criteria in the Strategy Builder<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In the Strategy Builder, you\u2019re very limited by the <strong>\u201cStandard\u201d settings tab<\/strong> for each element. If you try to use it, you can only filter on your recommendation records. But there\u2019s always the <strong>\u201cAdvanced\u201d tab<\/strong>, which works just the same as a <strong>formula field<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2843\" src=\"https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_ZlolI0nlipKO_2bchO6ilw.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_ZlolI0nlipKO_2bchO6ilw-200x73.png 200w, https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_ZlolI0nlipKO_2bchO6ilw-300x109.png 300w, https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_ZlolI0nlipKO_2bchO6ilw-400x146.png 400w, https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_ZlolI0nlipKO_2bchO6ilw-600x218.png 600w, https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_ZlolI0nlipKO_2bchO6ilw-768x279.png 768w, https:\/\/texei.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1_ZlolI0nlipKO_2bchO6ilw.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Great, isn\u2019t it? The only thing is you can type whatever you want, you won\u2019t know if what you typed makes sense before testing your whole strategy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unless\u2026 <\/strong>you create a new formula field in an object to use as draft, and <strong>test your syntax<\/strong> in there before copying\/pasting into the advanced filter\u00a0;)<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2. Trying to work with non-persisted records in your flow<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>As a \u201ctechnico-functional\u201d consultant, sometimes behavior that seems fairly easy and logical to me well\u2026 just isn\u2019t. So what I wanted was to <strong>call an Apex invocable action in our flow<\/strong> that would return a list of potential business partners (accounts) when we didn\u2019t have one. Easy. But I wanted to give the users the choice of which partner they would want to sign and then, save the choice as a new Account. Well\u2026 it turns out that working with non-persisted records in a flow isn\u2019t possible (or I didn\u2019t find out how). And the simple reason is\u2026 <strong>non-persisted records don\u2019t have Id\u2019s!<\/strong> So how do you assign them to variables, iterate and perform operations on them?<\/p>\n<p><strong>The answer is\u00a0: you don\u2019t<\/strong>. So what we did was <strong>think backwards<\/strong>\u00a0: save the records in the apex method,\u200a\u2014\u200ayou could also save them in the flow before processing them\u200a\u2014\u200alet the users choose the potential business partner they want to work with and delete the others.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>3. When you cannot find your invocable methods in the flow builder<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>After creating a new environment, we faced another pleasant issue. As I created my flow, I couldn\u2019t find our invocable action. I couldn\u2019t understand what had happened, because it was the exact same code in our Apex class than in the previous sandbox. After a couple of hours and multiple google researches, we finally found the answer: it appears that, sometimes, there is a <strong>caching issue impacting the Lightning Flow Builder<\/strong> that prevents your invocable actions from being available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The trick is<\/strong> then to enable the good-old <strong>Cloud Flow Designer<\/strong>, which doesn\u2019t suffer from this terrible affliction. Your invocable action will be loaded. Close the designer, reopen the new builder and Voil\u00e0! You will now be able to see and use your invocable actions.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>4. Getting frustrated with the checkbox groups behavior<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>This one was definitely the most frustrating of them all. <strong>Checkbox groups do not have the same behavior<\/strong> between the Cloud Flow Designer and the Lightning Flow Builder. How so? Before, you could get the record choices selected by the user, assign them to a collection variables, then use them as you wished.<\/p>\n<p>Today, apparently, you can only capture one record. The last choice that was selected by the user. What is tricky while trying to debug this is, you can capture all the Id\u2019s (or other fields available) of the choices in a string and display them. But when it comes to passing them into a record collection, nothing seems to work.<\/p>\n<p>So, if you\u2019re trying to let the user select multiple records via a checkbox groups, get the choices and apply some logic to them, the only option currently seems to be using the Cloud Flow Designer.<\/p>\n<h3>And Einstein in all\u00a0that?<\/h3>\n<p>More than once, I asked myself why Einstein NBA had Einstein in its name if -as an admin &#8211; you are the one giving the strategy its intelligence. Where\u2019s AI in all that?<\/p>\n<p>Well, you can and most likely will use NBA without AI. And it remains a great feature that can provide a lot of value to your business.<\/p>\n<p>But you can also add some AI. There are mainly two ways to do so.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>With <strong>Einstein Discovery<\/strong>\u00a0: find more about it <a href=\"https:\/\/help.salesforce.com\/articleView?id=bi_edd_wb_native.htm&amp;type=5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Using the <strong>Generate or Enhance Elements<\/strong> in the Strategy Builder with an invocable action that calls a <strong>predictive analysis service<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In both cases, the idea is the same. You use AI to generate or surface recommendations thanks to predictive analysis based on your data or external information.
